Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) provides a variety of health care coverage choices and plans throughout the country. Based on your state, BCBS offers HMO (health maintenance organization), PPO (network) plans, PPO plans with a Health Savings Account (HSA), and Indemnity plans (non-network coverage). Most of these plans (with appropriate changes) will be available on either a group basis for employers and their employees or for individual and family coverage or, in some areas, as both group and individual plans. For seniors, and depending on the state where you live, BCBS offers a couple of plans, including national Medicare supplemental insurance (non-BCBS-network) and local coverage only BCBS-in-network Medicare supplemental insurance.

Across the USA, most BCBS providers have introduced complementary health care services and health care information, resources and guidelines. These complementary services include covered or fee-negotiated health services such as dental, vision or alternative medicine. Available health guidelines and resources include subject matter such as general health care, nutrition, exercise, dietary supplements, fitness and weight loss, behavioral health, and children's health.
